Placing your trust in us, will ensure the highest quality care for your family.
Our Mission
At Families First we honour and remember the uniqueness of each human life. We are dedicated to the loving and sensitive care of families in times of need.
Our Family
Families First, is truly a family owned and operated funeral home. In May of 1996, Brian and Mary Lynn opened Families First with the desire to create a family oriented atmosphere thus producing a more personal and caring experience for those being served. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is our greatest asset. Each family is served with care and compassion and our eagerness to serve beyond their expectations is evident in everything we do. We offer helpful ideas on ways to customize funerals with many choices and options, without encurring additional costs or burdens to the family. The carefully chosen decor permeates warmth and comfort, allowing families to take the first step towards the painful process of healing in a safe and homelike environment.
Like you, we appreciate good neighbours and as established members of the community, we value the opportunity to serve area families like yours - neighbours with whom we share trust. It is this trust on which we are building our reputation.
Since its opening, Families First Funeral Home has provided families with solid advice and caring personal service during times of emotional stress. Many families first come to know us when they attend a funeral. Later, they call on us in their own time of need. They know they can count on us to be there, when unique, reliable and professional help is required.
Cherished Memories
We offer cards made to leave a special memory of the deceased with the family. It helps to show the family how their loved one touched others. These cards give you the opportunity to leave a lasting thought with them so that they may reflect upon your memory of their loved one, days, months and even years later.
Personalization and Life Appreciation
We offer many ways to personalize the funeral with the use of picture boards, life appreciation displays, photograph prayer cards with original designs and preferred music may be chosen to enhance familiar feelings associated with the relationship of the deceased. We also offer customized caskets or urn options and choices. With your assistance we will give you choices and options which will help you make sure the visitation and service are focused on celebrating the life that was lived. At Families First there is a willingness on our part to do whatever it is that makes your family feel comfortable while in our care.
Funeral Costs
The choices that you and your family make are the primary factor in determining the funeral cost. However, there are some expenses which are basic to every funeral service such as professional services of our staff, use of funeral home facilities and automotive equipment. The cost of these services will vary depending on the extent to which your family requires them. For instance, the longer the period of visitation, the higher the cost because of professional service hours and use of facilities. We pride ourselves on being able to offer services to all regardless as whether the service is simple or very complex. This allows us to supply price choices in any range needed.
Casket
The selection of a casket is an important decision during the arrangement interview. We offer a wide variety of woods, metals, colours and interiors. Our caskets range in price so we may offer affordable choices for all families. Our selection room displays 34 choices on site, and more than 50 additional choices by photo. We have many ways of personalizing the casket with changeable cap panels, corners, memory safes, quilted interiors and complete customization paint and interior. We also offer a wide variety of cremation friendly caskets, including a rental casket. The choices are far greater than ever before and if personalization is an area that is important, then preplanning is essential.
We also offer a wide variety of urns which range from simple, to lost wax sculpturing in solid bronze. We even have the ability to laser etch names, dates, favourite sayings or a photo onto the urn.
Estate Benefit Services
We understand that after the death of a loved one families are often left with the onerous task of completing Canada Pension forms, insurance claims, health benefits, (reporting the death to employers, banks, trust companies etc.) at a time when these responsibilities can seem insurmountable. It is easy to justify putting these things aside until one feels strong enough to complete them. This often delays benefits to a surviving spouse or children. Because we know it helps to have this completed in a timely manner:
We will complete all forms required for:
Income Securities Program and the federal government related to Canada Pension and Old Age Security.
as requested we will:
~Complete the application form for Canada Pension Lump sum death benefit.
~Complete the spousal monthly benefit form.
~Complete children's benefit forms.
~Obtain and complete life insurance claimant forms.
~Obtain and complete employer health, life and pension forms.
~Give notification and supply certificates of death to any bank, trust company, union.
~Deliver all forms once completed to their required locations.
Children's Program
We are proud to offer to the community an information program for children. This is a resource which helps inform children about death, dying and bereavement. Following a discussion, we take the children to see the caskets so that they may fully open, touch, feel them and ask questions before they see their loved one. We feel it is important to eliminate the mystery of death so that their imagination does not replace what is fact. We encourage the children to draw pictures, write letters, or bring in articles that remind them of the person who died so that they may put these in the casket. Children also make good honourary pallbearer's thus giving them a feeling of participation in everything that is happening.
Programs for Clubs
At Families First we have developed various programs for schools, churches, service clubs and senior citizen groups dealing with prearranged funerals, estate planning, death and dying. We have gone out into the community to present these programs, however, we also encourage groups to meet at the funeral home. We are proud to show groups, or individuals our facility, as well as the services offered.
Forethought Prearranged Funeral Planning, for those you love
Most people do not know how much a funeral of their choice would cost. We can provide you with this information at no obligation, to use for your personal financial planning. We can meet with you in the comfort of your home or ours, days, evenings and weekends. We also offer Forethought funeral planning, with no payment, lump sum, or 3, 5 and 10 year payment options. These choices may have insurance coverage, which will pay the service and merchandise selected, should death occur prematurely. You may also pre-pay a portion of the funeral expense, such as just the casket or professional services and guarantee the cost. Pre-planning assures that your family members are not left with difficult decisions at a time of great emotional strain. It also allows for time to personalize the funeral and control the cost. Ask us about pre-planning without pre-paying.
Personal Service Commitment
If you are not completely satisfied with any professional service or facilities,
you will not be charged for that service.
